TWiRRB Notes - last week of the regular season

Feels quick that we are into the last week of the season, but the week has started off strong.  The offense came alive the last couple of days with back-to-back games of 10 run production.  The clutch hits are coming in time for the playoffs!  Also, this week marked the first time we have ever won two conference games in a row.  It looks like the Varsity team will end up with the 5th seed and play at Dominion on the 17th in the first round of the conference tournament.  Let’s get it!

Huge shoutout to the JV baseball team which notched the first JV win in our young history beating Broad Run 4-3.  Great job!

Thank you to Kathi Goldman and her team of helpers to make Senior Night a huge success!  In a total team effort we played great on the field, and it looked and sounds like it was a great night for the families of the Seniors.  These young men have left their stamp on this program and they will be missed!

The graphics at the field, like the one above, are a great upgrade to our facility and a great way to honor the hard work of the young men in this program.  Thanks to Melissa Brown for setting up the imaging.

Golf Tournament - The Rock Ridge High School Athletic Booster Club is hosting a golf tournament on June 12th at South Riding.  Our baseball team will be responsible for buying a foursome and providing a silent auction item.  Thank you to our sponsors Subway and Creighton Enterprises for providing hole sponsorships. If you have silent auction items or are interested in playing, let me know.

End of Season Event - We will have an end-of-season banquet/event following the conclusion of the playoffs.  Suzanne Glatz, who took on the huge task of pre-game meals, has also offered to help organize this event.  Please let one of us know if you would like to help.

Buying or Selling? Thanks to Stephanie Mueller for her kind offer!  If you are buying or selling, please consider this great opportunity for our programs.

Loudoun Riverdogs -  The Riverdogs are a collegiate summer baseball team that competes in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League.  They will be using our field for the summer, and the arrangement allows for us to do concessions and collect a gate for games.  All of the proceeds go directly to our baseball and athletics programs.  One of the critical needs for any summer league baseball program is the need for host families for out-of-town players.  The players usually need a place to sleep and shower, as they will keep a busy baseball schedule playing almost every night during the summer.  If you have extra space, this is a great opportunity for you to pay it forward.  If your son aspires to play college baseball some day, there is no doubt that he will be staying with a host family during his summers in the future.

Stillbrave Carnival - On May 20th we will once again join with Stillbrave to lend our service to their Carnival of Kindness.  This was a great team event last year and our help was greatly needed and appreciated by the Stillbrave organization.  Thanks to Melissa Brown for coordinating this community outreach volunteer activity.

TWiRRB Notes

Unbelievable!  Last night marked the quarter post of our regular season, and when we return from break we will be halfway through.  Although the win/loss columns are not working out our way yet, we’ll get there.  I appreciate the constant support and attendance of our fan base, the incredible attention to our field from the athletics staff and players who work to provide us with the best facility in the area to play on, and our game day staff that plays the music, runs the scoreboard, and announces the game - we have a great atmosphere at home!

Meals on game day - Thank you Suzanne Glatz, and the distribution volunteers, for handling the team meals!

Concessions Volunteers Needed:  We have two concession dates we need to cover: 4/26 Track and 5/3 Track.  The link to sign up to help is here Spring Concession Stand for Baseball. These are events where the baseball team is working the concession stand for other teams' events.  Other teams work the concession stand during our games so that our parents can watch the games.  These are a great way for us to show support for the Booster Club and to earn a $100 donation for our team.

Buying or Selling? It’s Springtime, and that means the housing market is going to jump!  Thanks to Stephanie Mueller for her kind offer of donating to Rock Ridge athletics for transactions coming from Rock Ridge referrals. If you are buying or selling, please consider this great opportunity for our programs.

Golf Tournament - This summer Rock Ridge High School athletics will host our first golf tournament.  Our baseball team will be responsible for buying a foursome, selling a hole sponsorship and/or providing a silent auction item.  Please share these with your business connections and let me know if you are willing/able to help us make this a great event.  We are ahead of the game and have sold a hole sponsorship already!

Varsity Baseball Spring Break Update - The most recent version of the bracket is in.

Hatfield Division - Our Bracket - Note - we will not be playing on Thursday even if we are 3-0 and aligned for the championship.  This is a LCPS regulation that we can only play 3 games and need to be finished on Wednesday.

We play Monday at 7:30 against our site host - Bishop England High School.

Tuesday will be at the same site, time determined based on Monday’s result.

Wednesday is TBD, but I have requested an early time so that we can travel.  The tournament director is going to try to get us a day game, but can not confirm at this point.

The distance between the hotel and Bishop England is about 13 miles.

Thanks to everyone who provided emails and contacts for our eteamsponsor fundraiser, we raised enough money to fund the team hotels on the trip.

Students should arrive on Sunday 4/9 at the hotel in Charleston.  Please let me know as soon as possible if your student will need a ride and if you are willing to help with game day carpooling.

Permission forms are coming home this week.  Please complete and return by next Tuesday April 4th.

Please contact me if you have questions about the trip.

Thanks to everyone who attended the parent meeting last week, it was nice to see you all there, and please reach out if you have questions, need more information, or just want to talk baseball.

TWiRRB Notes - This Week in (Rock Ridge) Baseball

TWiRRB Notes - This Week in (Rock Ridge) Baseball

I look forward to meeting parents and discussing details of the upcoming season on March 1st at 7pm in the main gym.

Some items I would like to bring to your attention prior to the meeting are as follows:

Cheers Sports Apparel (spirit wear) - We have partnered with Cheers Sports to provide an online store for team apparel and other cloth and equipment.  Please notice that most items are optional.  Hats will be distributed by me today, but they need to be paid for through the payment portal.  The players are coming home with a flyer from Cheers today, but you can access the store at https://cheerssports.itemorder.com/  our code for access is VTTHT.  The store will be open until March 2nd at 11:59pm.

Wilkins Shoe Center - Wilkins is coming to Rock Ridge on Monday to preview baseball shoes for the coming season.  This is not required, but  Wilkins has always provided us with excellent prices, quality and follow up service for shoes.  Money is not needed on Monday, but players who purchase shoes on Monday will not get them until paid via check or CC to Wilkins Shoe Center in Winchester, Va.  If you are purchasing shoes elsewhere, note that most of our players wear white shoes.

eTeamSponsor - We are looking to expand our fundraising circle beyond our parents alone; as a parent of a Rock Ridge student myself, I recognize that we ask you for a lot of money - this email is just that, I know.  This year we are going to attempt an online fundraising campaign  through eTeamSponsors hoping to raise funds for upgrades to the facility, travel, and team needs.  The players will need to bring in 20 email addresses of family/extended family/friends or other supporters of the program, and eTeamSponsors will set up a “letter writing campaign” for us.  This is time sensitive and the emails need to be brought in by this coming Monday.  The players are bringing home a worksheet today where they can record the email addresses, and eTeamSponsor will attend our meeting on Monday to take it from there.  Please text me if you have any questions.

Picture Day - Wednesday March 1st is also picture day.  I am sending home picture forms today, and players will be issued uniforms prior to pictures.  Please have them bring the picture form and money if you want to purchase.

Activities Fee - Activities Fee is a requirement for participation in all LCPS sports.  This is not a RRHS fee, but an LCPS fee.  All fees are due by March 2nd.  Please pay using the payment portal at https://webinter.lcps.org/paymentportal/public/HandlePaymentWizard.aspx?cl=1&programName=athletic_fees

The wind is blowing, the field is drying out!

Players, parents, fans of Rock Ridge Baseball:

We are 15 days away from that first official crack of the bat on the season. With that in mind, please mark your calendars for the opener at local Briar Woods and our first night at the Rock later that week against John Champe. The full game schedule is posted here at rockridgesports.org, so go ahead and bookmark that page so you don't miss a moment!

We had a great first week of practice and it is a huge step in the growth of our program that we will field both a Varsity and JV team in our second year!

I look forward to meeting everyone to introduce our coaching staff at the Spring Sports Parent's Night on Monday. We will have a large-group meeting run by AD Pat McNanley followed by a satellite meeting where I will discuss baseball specific expectations and answer questions.

Please mark your calendar for our athletic department wide mattress sale on March 12th. Everyone needs a mattress, so come and shop or send a friend to buy one, helping our program grow at the same time.

With the help of the booster club, athletic department, and your volunteering in the concession stand, we have already made some improvements to our already top notch facility. We added bullpens, fence capping and improved the usability of the batting practice areas. Still, over the next few weeks there will be a need for a couple of field days as we prepare our ballpark for the season. Anyone who can donate time on a Sunday, equipment, or materials to go to specific facility upgrades, please contact me and we will arrange a good time to meet and do the field work.

We will also need help with concessions as the season moves along. Please let me know if you are interested and available to help.

Lastly, we will be using Gamechanger to score games, so if you have an account, you can follow us here - http://gc.com/team-569fbfcc09b18c00207193ef You can also follow the Rise of the Phoenix on Twitter and Instagram @rockridge9

Together we RISE,
